Whether you’re looking for proximity to the Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Disney Springs, or just a resort that offers fun activities for young kids, we’ve got you covered.

1. Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

Why It’s Great for Families

Disney’s Art of Animation Resort is considered by many as one of the best Disney World hotels for families, especially those traveling with young kids. The resort features themed family suites inspired by beloved movies like Finding Nemo, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, and Cars. These suites are perfect for larger families, providing ample space and plenty of kid-friendly touches.

 Top Features

• Big Blue Pool: The largest pool in all Disney resorts, themed around Finding Nemo.

• Family Suites: Spacious accommodations that comfortably sleep up to six people.

• Dining Options: A vibrant food court with diverse choices, perfect for picky eaters.

• Themed Pools: With areas designed for both young children and adults to enjoy.

Why Families Love It

Art of Animation’s whimsical design and themed rooms bring favorite characters to life, creating a magical experience from the moment you arrive. The resort’s easy access to the Disney Skyliner also means a quick ride to Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, making park visits a breeze.

Now, you might see the above bullet about family suites and think "suite = expensive." And you'd be right. But here's the catch with Art of Animation, and why it's our #1 resort for families at Walt Disney World: these things sleep six. That means you can book one of these rooms for 150% of the price for a normal room at Art of Animation, rather than having to book two separate rooms, meaning you're shelling out 200% of the price. Ostensibly, you're saving 25% by staying here, rather than booking two rooms! And you don't have to worry about your kids being in a room three floors away.

2. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

A Classic Disney Experience

For a more upscale experience, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is a top pick among deluxe resorts. Its South Pacific theme, lush surroundings, and prime location near the Magic Kingdom make it one of the best Disney resorts for families looking to combine luxury with Disney magic. However, make no mistake: you will be paying up for this. Like...way, way up.

Highlights

• Proximity to Magic Kingdom: Just a short boat ride or monorail trip away.

• Larger Guest Rooms: Spacious accommodations ideal for larger families.

• Dining Options: Includes the famous ‘Ohana restaurant and a delightful breakfast with Mickey Mouse and friends.

• Themed Pools: Complete with water slides and a lazy river that both kids and adults will enjoy.

Perfect for Families

The combination of great dining, easy access to the parks, and the tropical ambiance makes it a favorite among families. The view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks from the beach is a perfect way to end a long day in the parks.

3. Animal Kingdom Lodge

A Wild Adventure for Kids and Adults

Animal Kingdom Lodge offers an experience like no other with its savanna-view rooms that overlook free-roaming wildlife. Families with young kids will love the thrill of seeing giraffes, zebras, and other animals right from their balconies. This resort’s immersive experience in African culture and wildlife is truly unique among Disney’s deluxe resorts.

What Stands Out

• Savanna-View Rooms: Wake up to animals grazing just outside your window.

• Unique Dining Options: Including Boma, a buffet that offers a taste of Africa.

• Themed Pools: Feature hot springs and water play areas for kids.

• Walking Paths: Allow for relaxing strolls surrounded by lush landscapes.

Ideal for Animal Lovers

If your family enjoys nature and wildlife, this resort is the perfect place. The educational programs about the animals and the beautiful design make it a top contender for families wanting an extraordinary Disney resort experience.

4. Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort

Caribbean Vibes on Disney Property

Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is another fantastic option for families, especially those looking for moderate resorts with a tropical feel. The resort’s bright colors, themed pools, and convenient transportation options make it a favorite among many visitors.

Notable Features

• Disney Skyliner Access: Provides easy and quick access to Epcot and Hollywood Studios.

• Room Types: Offers both standard rooms and larger family accommodations.

• Dining Options: From quick snacks to sit-down meals, there’s something for everyone.

• Lazy River: The pool area includes a lazy river for a relaxing float.

Great for Larger Families

The spacious rooms and convenient location make Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort an excellent choice for families who need both comfort and accessibility without the extra cost of deluxe resorts.

5. Port Orleans Resort – Riverside and French Quarter

Charming and Relaxing Atmosphere

Port Orleans Resort is split into two unique sections: Riverside and French Quarter. Both sections offer a laid-back, Southern-inspired vibe that many families appreciate after a hectic day at the theme parks. This resort is also one of the best value options for those looking to enjoy Disney’s moderate resorts, and the French Quarter is my personal favorite hotel at Walt Disney World!

Key Features

• Room Themes: Royal Guest Rooms with princess-inspired decor for young children.

• Boat Transportation: Direct boat access to Disney Springs.

• Largest Pool: The main pool area at Riverside is one of the largest pools on Disney property, with a waterslide.

• Short Walk: French Quarter’s compact size means a short walk to dining and recreation areas.

Why It’s a Top Pick

Families love the charming theming, the relaxed atmosphere, and the fun pool areas. It’s also one of the best places to stay if you plan to explore Disney Springs extensively.

6. Disney’s Contemporary Resort

Modern Elegance Meets Disney Magic

The most architecturally stunning of the Walt Disney World resorts, Disney’s Contemporary Resort is one of the most iconic Disney resorts, known for its futuristic design and unbeatable location right next to the Magic Kingdom. For families wanting to maximize their time in the parks, this resort offers easy access via a walking path, monorail, or boat transportation.

Top Amenities

• Main Tower Rooms: Offer stunning views of the Magic Kingdom.

• Dining Options: Includes California Grill, which offers breathtaking views of the fireworks.

• Pool Area: Featuring water slides and splash zones for the little ones.

• Bay Lake Tower: An additional section with spacious family suites perfect for larger families.

Perfect for First-Time Visitors

The close proximity to the Magic Kingdom and the futuristic vibe make this a top choice for first-time visitors looking to make their family vacation truly magical.

7. Disney’s Beach Club Resort and Yacht Club Resort

Ultimate in Relaxation and Fun

For families looking to combine luxury with recreation, Disney’s Beach Club Resort and Yacht Club Resort are unbeatable. These resorts share access to Stormalong Bay, a three-acre water wonderland with a lazy river, sand-bottom pools, and the biggest water slide on Disney property.

Reasons to Stay Here

• Short Walk: To Epcot and a quick boat ride to Hollywood Studios.

• Family Suites: Spacious and comfortable, perfect for larger families.

• Dining Options: Includes some of the best seafood dining on Disney property.

• Themed Pools: Stormalong Bay is practically a water park in itself.

Why Families Adore It

The combination of relaxation, themed pools, and easy park access make this resort a top pick for families wanting a bit of everything. The Beach Club’s proximity to Epcot is perfect for families who enjoy the Food & Wine Festival or just the variety of dining options at the park.

8. Disney’s Pop Century Resort

Fun for All Ages

For those looking for the best deal on Disney property, Disney’s Pop Century Resort offers great value with its retro-themed decor and fun atmosphere. It’s one of the best Disney value resorts, providing budget-friendly options without compromising on the Disney magic.

I will quickly note that, as an adult who went on an adult's only trip to Disney World during the pandemic, this is my least favorite Disney resort. It has a little bit of a motel feel, and everything here just feels a bit dated. The complex is also really big, and it was a 20 minute walk for us from our room to the front cafeteria area. You have been warned.

What Makes It Special

• Disney Skyliner Access: Direct link to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. To me, the Skyliner is the coolest way to get around Disney World! (Don't tell my father in law who would take a boat everywhere across Kissimmee)

• Larger Pool Area: Including the Hippy Dippy Pool and various water play zones.

• Dining: A versatile food court that suits all tastes.

• Perfect for Larger Families: With adjoining rooms available.

Ideal for Budget-Conscious Families

Pop Century’s affordable rates, combined with convenient transportation, make it an excellent choice for families looking to save on accommodation and spend more on park experiences and souvenirs.

Final Thoughts: Choosing the Best Disney Resort for Your Family

With so many incredible options on Disney property, selecting the best Disney resort for families depends on your specific needs. Consider factors like easy access to the theme parks, room types for larger families, and special amenities like themed pools and dining options. Whether you prefer the luxury of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa or the value-packed Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, there’s a perfect Disney resort waiting to make your family vacation magical.
